Latrine waste is the mass and liquid produced by a dry toilet. Latrine waste must not be buried as is, but must first be treated appropriately.
Latrine waste can be composted in a compost bin with a closed lid and a compact bottom. The compost must not leak liquid into the ground. Mix the latrine waste with, for example, dry earth materials and cover it well to avoid problems with flies.
Latrine waste should be composted for at least one year before it can be used in the garden. If you want to use the composted latrine waste in the vegetable garden, it should first be composted for at least two years. Compost from latrine waste is recommended to be used primarily for ornamental plants.
If you have a separating dry bin, the liquid can be used diluted as fertiliser in the garden, or poured down the drain.
Botniarosk do not accept latrine waste.
