➤ Waste management for holiday homes

All holiday homes must have a collection point for combustible waste at their disposal. Combustible waste is the daily, non-recyclable waste that is generated at the holiday home. If bio waste is not composted at the premises, it is sorted as combustible waste.

In the operating area of Botniarosk, the following collection points for combustible waste are offered to the proprietors of holiday homes:

1. own waste bin

If you spend a lot of time at your holiday home and there is a road leading to it, most convenient is to have your own waste container for the property. An emptying contract must be made with a waste transport company for the duration of your sta and the waste container must be emptied in accordance with the waste management regulations. The waste transport companies invoice the transport and treatment fee for the combustible waste container.

Emptying intervals according to waste management regulations
In the summertime (1.5 - 30.9) the waste container must be emptied at least once every two weeks. At winter (1.10 - 30.4) the emptying interval can be a maximum of four weeks. For one- and two-person households, that produce little waste, the emptying interval can be four weeks all year round.

2. shared waste bin

Two or more neighboring properties can agree on a common waste bin. In some areas where holiday homes are densely located, there might be common waste bins under the auspices of holiday homes associations, road administrative committees or village committees.  A written notification about shared containers must be submitted to the Suupohja's waste committee.

3. locked bins

Holiday homeowners can obtain a key for locked containers for combustible waste. There are locked containers located at more than 20 ecopoints in Botniarosk's area. These bins are primarily used when it is difficult to maintain your own waste bin, for example due to poor road connections. A usage fee is charged for the use of the locked containers.

The waste container at home must be emptied in accordance with the waste management regulations.

Other types of waste

ecopoints

If the residential building is in a rural area or is located in an urban area, but consists of less than 5 apartments, separate collection of paper and packaging waste is not required, these types of waste can be taken to the nearest ecopoint.

Waste paper, metal and glass packaging can be taken to the nearest Botniarosk or Rinki ecopoint. In addition to paper, metal and glass packaging, Rinki ecopoints also collect carton packaging as well as plastic packaging at some of their ecopoints.

Recycling stations

Hazardous waste, electrical and electronic waste, landfill waste, recyclable waste and larger objects, such as furniture, are taken to a recycling station.

Waste center

Large quantities of waste are delivered to the waste center in Teuva. Household waste, that does not belong in the waste bin at the residential building or at the ecopoints, is mainly delivered to the recycling station. As a rule of thumb, a car trailer with waste belongs at the recycling station, while a tractor trailer with a single type of waste is left at the waste centre.
